From our first gathering to the moments since, here's how our mission has grown — one event, one story, one life touched at a time.
Women from across the community came together for a day of honesty, healing, and hope. The conference opened space for real conversations on breast and cervical cancer screening, mental wellbeing, and the quiet battles many women carry alone. Survivors shared their stories, health professionals answered questions without judgment, and by the end of the day, strangers left as sisters — reminded that no woman has to face her Ashes alone.
At Empower International Academy, we brought cancer awareness and mental health education straight to the students — meeting the next generation where they are. Through simple, age-appropriate conversations on healthy habits, early detection, and speaking up about how they feel, learners walked away with knowledge that can protect not just themselves, but their families for years to come.
The Beauty for Ashes humanitarian initiative was officially launched on December 19, 2024, in Kampala, Uganda. The initiative was born out of the heartbreaking loss of Sharifa Nabakooza to breast cancer and is dedicated to raising cancer awareness, encouraging early screening, and promoting care, dignity, and support for individuals and families affected by cancer. The initiative is led by Dr. Mary Mwesigwa, a Ugandan medical doctor currently based in the United States, whose vision is to improve lives through prevention, compassion, and advocacy.
Culture came alive through dance as a talented local group performed in stunning traditional dress. Their energetic movements and radiant smiles reminded everyone that healing encompasses more than medicine it includes joy, community, and celebrating our heritage together. In their synchronized steps and vibrant costumes, we witnessed a powerful truth: even amid cancer and grief, there is still room for dignity, connection, and the beauty of who we are.
The visitors got to be together to push ideas how to support the vision and be able to turn people's Ashes into Beauty which is the goal (Hope Beyond Diagnosis) Unite is one Key aspect
Togetherness in one Harmony is the key that keeps us moving forward, so we need to unite together to pick those in Ashes to turn their Ashes into beauty which makes them not to give up that aren't alone in the battle
